Description

This three-axis magnetic field compensation coil is a nominal 6-inch diameter, 9-inch long cylindrical wireline assembly designed to generate or cancel magnetic fields across the X, Y, and Z axes. It utilizes two orthogonal sets of single-turn saddle coils to control the transverse horizontal and vertical fields, while a four-turn axial solenoid with 3-inch loop spacing manages the longitudinal Z-axis field. The coil frame assembly spans a nominal 15-inch length.

Designed for precision triaxial magnetic field control, this compensation coil geometry provides independent manipulation of the X, Y, and Z magnetic field vectors within a cylindrical volume. It is highly suitable for integration into our 6-inch MuMETAL Zero Gauss Chamber Model ZG-206, as well as benchtop magnetometer calibration testing, or ambient field cancellation setups.

Transverse Axes (X and Y): The horizontal (X-axis) and vertical (Y-axis) transverse fields are generated by two overlapping, orthogonal sets of single-turn saddle coils. Both sets of saddle coils span the entire 9-inch length of the cylinder and wrap around the 6-inch diameter footprint, providing uniform transverse field gradients across the central working volume.

Axial Axis (Z): The longitudinal (Z-axis) field is driven by a four-turn solenoid. To ensure optimal field uniformity and geometric alignment, the individual loops are separated by 3 inches. The two outermost solenoid loops are designed to be perfectly coplanar with the outer end-arcs of the saddle coils, capping the exact overall length of the assembly at 9 inches without any wire overhang.

Mounting Base: Positioned centrally inside the core of the coil assembly is a flat, 0.25-inch thick acetal (POM) breadboard. Measuring 3.3 inches wide and spanning the entire 15-inch length of the assembly, this non-magnetic base provides a robust and dimensionally stable working platform. It is populated with an industry-standard 1/4-20 threaded hole pattern spaced on 1-inch centers, allowing users to accurately mount precision magnetic field sensors, rigidly secure test samples, and align custom measurement fixtures directly inside the most uniform region of the generated magnetic field.
