Nanotechnology - the creation of materials with material grain-sizes below 100nm, has changed the face of materials science. Nanovate-EM is the result of thousands of hours of investigation and refinement of the search for nano-based solutions in the area of magnetic shielding.

Nanovate-EM can be applied to a broad range of polymer, composite and metal shapes. It can also be applied to a selected area of a shape. It eliminates the need for traditional application of magnetic shielding foil to a formed shape using adhesive, plus it saves the costly, time-consuming step of re-annealing a shield that may have been formed with the shape.

On the other hand, Nanovate-EM addresses many of the drawbacks of these approaches by directly coating parts as shown in the following figures.

Mechanical Properties

Properties of metals are governed by the Hall-Petch relationship - as grain size decreases, strength increases. Nanocrystalline materials, such as Nanovate coatings are characterized with significant increases in:

    » Yield Strength
    » Ultimate Tensile Strength
    » Hardness

The process used to create Nanovate coatings achieves these high strength values while retaining ductility. The high yield strength, coupled with the ductility make them particularly well suited to polymer and composite substrates. This opens the door to decreasing cost and increasing design flexibility through replacing solid metal enclosures with Nanovate EM coated molded polymers.
