GET A MAGNETIC SHIELDING CALCULATOR
Magnetic Shield has developed an easy to use slide rule calculator that takes the mystery out of designing magnetic shields. Based on formulae for magnetic shields that have been developed by us over the years, one setting of the slide determines estimated performance for a proposed shield design.
Simple calculations enable the user to design for square or rectangular tubes or closed box scenarios. A shield for a particular application can be designed quickly through use of the slide rule to vary design parameters until an effective combination is found
The Magnetic Shield calculator comes in a package with application notes, conversion factors and definitions of terms are on the reverse side. A sheet outlining sample calculations is included. As always, Magnetic Shield engineers are available to discuss specific design criteria involving strong fields or high attenuation.

Case #20403: Taking control of the Controller
Customer's Problem:
A major supplier of control networks technology had a transceiver chip that was being adversely affected by magnetic fields. Complicating the problem, the field strengths of the interference varied greatly depending upon what application the chip was being used in. Usually the approach would be to shield the source of the interference, but this was not within the control of the the company. Additional complications included operation in both 50 and 60 hertz electrical power systems, the need to meet stringent emission levels, and of course a very short time frame in which to accomplish all this.
To ensure the correct operation of their chip in the broadest set of applications the company's engineers decided on the use of a shield They contacted Magnetic Shield Corporation for consultation.
