In December, Magnetic Shield successfully completed the arduous ISO qualification procedure and is now ISO 9001:2008 certified. ISO is the abbreviation for the "International Organization for Standardization," a worldwide federation of 110 countries, based in Switzerland, that works to promote the growth of manufacturing, trade and communication among business operations worldwide, through the development of generic quality standards.

As part of the certification process, we developed and implemented a Quality Procedure Manual, a company operating Bible so to speak, which focuses on the eight principles of the ISO quality management system:

Jim Fox, Magnetic Shield President, and Ed Kobek, Chief Engineer, worked closely with Perry Johnson Registrars, Inc., an independent ISO registrar and one of a select few organizations ISO-qualified and accredited. PJR provides objective proof that the companies seeking qualification possess the proper policies, procedures, records, technologies, resources and structures to achieve a world-class standard of quality. Magnetic Shield passed with flying colors, including a final two-day in-depth PJR in-house review of our complete operation. PJR personnel have an average of 15 years experience as auditors and 18 years in the quality assurance field, so we understood the complexity and scrutiny that would be inherent in this final review.

Of course, we believe we already had many of the ISO standards in place and were utilizing ISO procedures before we sought certification. In many ways, what we ended up accomplishing was to formalize the way we had been doing business in the first place. Yet we understand that ISO demands total commitment, cooperation and teamwork to reach a successful end to the certification journey. Even now that we are proudly hanging our ISO certificate in our lobby and an ISO banner in our manufacturing area, we realize that the ISO commitment does not end with certification: we will continue to be reviewed by Perry Johnson Registrars on a quarterly basis. In addition, we are inspected for quality in product and service on a daily level, by you, our valued customers.
