How to Order Your Magnetic Shield Lab Kit

Electromagnetic interference is generally classified as either internal or external. Internal interference, created by the operation of components within the system itself, can usually be neutralized by shielding the individual components and confining the magnetic forces they create. External interference is frequently caused by nearby equipment such as transformers or switching equipment, which generate magnetic "spikes" affecting apparatus not physically attached to the source of the interference. In this case, the entire separate apparatus must be shielded.

In our last issue of Magnetic Shield Update, we explored the proprietary alloys created by Magnetic Shield Corporation in a range of thicknesses and forms to solve the problem of electromagnetic interference. You can use the Magnetic Shield Lab Kit to determine the kind and minimum amount of material necessary to neutralize interference by adding CO-NETIC® and NETIC® layers until desired attenuation is achieved. This results in significant cost savings in the actual final design to be produced. The Lab Kit is highly effective in D.C. to 100 kiloHertz applications.

An important advantage of the "hands-on" shielding approach is that changes in a circuit layout, shield configuration, power levels and component orientation are easily evaluated. Each consideration is evaluated without reliance on theoretical formulas that are imprecise. The Lab Kit permits magnetic shields to be designed and modified until their required performance is obtained. The prototype then serves as a model for production.

The range of CO-NETIC and NETIC alloys provided in the Lab Kit is Perfection Annealed and will not require re-annealing unless severe forming or heli-arc welding is performed. Additional material may be ordered in standard foil and sheet sizes. Ask us for details.

The optional A. C. Magnetic Field Evaluator Probe can be used with a digital volt meter or oscilloscope to measure magnetic field intensities and the attenuation ratios of magnetic fields.
