NETIC®, CO-NETIC AA® and MUMETAL® trademarks
“are our lifetime achievement awards.”

Continued from page 2...

Undaunted, the Powers family revisited the naming process, and the trademarks of NETIC and CO-NETIC were born. Both were successfully registered in 1955.

To this day, NETIC and CONETIC are recognized as the benchmark in magnetic shielding alloys.

In fields of low intensity, CONETIC AA is used in order to utilize its high initial permeability and corresponding high attenuation characteristics.

In fields of high intensity, NETIC S3-6 is preferred because of its high magnetic saturation characteristics.

Both alloys must be annealed following forming to achieve optimum magnetic properties.

The rest, as they say, is history. Magnetic Shield Corporation became known world wide for their innovative solutions to the multitude of electromagnetic interference problems created by the new technologies. Inquiries for assistance were overwhelming, and the Magnetic Shield Lab Kit was born.

The philosophy was simple. The company’s customers were persons of science (researchers, engineers, etc.) and the intent was to provide the materials they needed to conduct the experiments that would define the thickness and degree of attenuation necessary to properly shield the components being tested.

Early catalogs and technical literature went to great lengths to explain the characteristics of magnetic shields, and to guide users in the proper selection of the alloy best suited to their needs.

The list of First Uses and Major Projects documents our nation’s historic moments (see Magnetic Shield Time Line on next page).

The year 1968 brought a major benchmark in the company’s history, breaking ground on a new office and manufacturing complex in Bensenville, IL, (immediately adjacent to O’Hare airport), and centrally located in the Chicago metroplex of the day.

A few years later, the Powers family purchased the firm in its entirety from their partners.

Shortly thereafter, James Powers retired from the business and turned over management to his hand-picked team. He pursued his passion, horses, which is something he shares with his sister, Susan.

When asked to what he attributed the longevity of the enterprise, his reply was delivered in a typical terse manner. “Good bookkeeping.”

He further commented that the change in business with the advent of the Internet and computer technology has escalated time lines, and shorted response times.

“It used to take a couple of days to respond to an inquiry. Today, they want it in the next minute,” he stated. “And everything and everyone is more critical, demanding better accuracy and performance.”

“Our crowning achievement is the recent acquisition of the Mumetal trademark. Now we truly can say we are the Preferred Source for magnetic shielding technology.”
